McConnell Springs Wine Barrel Tasting Event

We are combining two of our favorites on this tour--wine and historic preservation. McConnell Springs Wine Barrel Tasting event is the annual fundraiser for McConnell Springs, the birthplace of Lexington.  In 1775 William McConnell and his fellow frontiersmen camped at a natural spring in the wilderness of the Virginia territory known as Kentucky. Word came from nearby Fort Boonesboro that the first battle of the American Revolution had been fought in Lexington, Massachusetts. In honor of the battle, the group named their future settlement “Lexington. Over the years, McConnell Springs--a National Registered Historic Site--was the location of a mill, a gunpowder factory, a distillery, and a dairy farm. Eventually the site was abandoned but not forgotten. Citizens efforts to reclaim McConnell Springs for its historical and natural value began in 1993 with the founding of The Friends of McConnell Springs.

In conjunction with McConnell Springs we offer tickets and transportation to a selection of 4 of central Kentucky’s wineries to sample wine that is ready for bottling. You will have the opportunity to meet the winemakers and discuss their favorite subject-wine. Enjoy the fruits of their labor and leave the driving to us. Twenty dollars from every ticket sale is donated to McConnell Springs to support historic preservation and educational activities.
